Low Blood Glucose Levels

For an ever increasing number of people low blood glucose levels are a real concern. The number of people diagnosed with heart disease, hypertension, and many forms of cancer, has been fairly steady or even slightly declining in recent years, but the number of people with diabetes continues to skyrocket. For those with diabetes low blood glucose levels can be just as much of a concern as high blood glucose levels due to the simple fact the for the body to operate at optimum levels the blood glucose generally needs to stay somewhere between 60 and 10 mg/dl. Diabetes is the number one cause of abnormal blood glucose levels due to the way it affects the way the body is able to metabolize the glucose that is taken in as food.

Glucose is a type of sugar that the body gets from carbohydrates, sugars, and fatty foods that are consumed. Glucose is important because it is used by each cell of the body as a source of fuel, and when glucose levels fall the body begins to shut down just as surely as a car shutting down when the fuel tank is empty. For most diabetics there is a fine line between too much and too little glucose, and they must check their glucose several times a day in order to balance their medication dosage and diet to keep glucose within healthy levels. All it takes is one misjudgment in insulin dosage, or one forgotten meal or snack to cause blood glucose levels to plummet to the point that the diabetic will lose consciousness and could even die without prompt treatment.

If you or someone you know is a diabetic the only way to keep from suffering from low blood glucose levels is by staying on top of your glucose checks, keeping your diet right, and following your doctors recommendations. You surely don’t want to be on a long trip when your car runs out of gas, and you don’t want to allow your body to suffer from lack of fuel.

foods that diabetics can eat

Some of the foods that diabetics can eat are the same as me and you, but within moderation. The meals that diabetics can eat, foods that diabetics can eat and the diet that diabetics can eat are the same as anyone else just with moderation and careful planning. Being diabetic doesn’t mean the end of the world, being diabetic just means careful planning, better diets, reading labels and monitoring what you eat and consume more carefully than others. The meals that diabetics can eat are the same that you and I can eat without diabetes just without all of the sugar and extra salt.

My grandmother is diabetic and I used to think that it would be tough fixing two different meals every time that I helped them cook but then I learned that she could eat the same thing as me and you just without the added sugar, seasoning and salt. So, now when I fix meals for them and us I take hers out in separate containers before I add the extra sugar, salt or seasonings to it. The foods that diabetics can eat really are the same as what everyone can eat just in moderation.

Of course, there are many various cookbooks out there that can be rented, downloaded or purchased that have all sorts of various recipes that diabetics can eat so that they still can have meals fixed with sugar substitutes in order to have that yummy, delicious taste instead of a more bland and plain taste.

There are all sorts of places to find a list of foods that diabetics can eat such as online, through your doctor’s office or physician or local library. After all, the same fruits that diabetics can eat and the same foods that diabetics can eat are no different from me and you!

What Should Diabetics Eat?

What should diabetics eat
What should diabetics eat

What should diabetics eat? Diabetics should eat the same as you and I, just within moderation and within reasoning. Diabetics can eat almost the same as a normal healthy person just without all of the added sugar, fat and salts.

A diabetic diet consists of more bland foods such as wheat products versus saltine crackers, regular white bread, whole milk, etc. because those products contain high amounts of carbohydrates and sugars or starches.

What should diabetics eat? Your diet should contain foods that are grown organic, does not contain sugars or fatty starches. If beans are fixed then they do not need to be fixed with added grease or sugar, wheat bread can be substituted for white bread and 2% milk can be drunk in place of regular whole milk.

What should diabetics not eat? A diabetic diet should not consist of sugary drinks such as regular soft drinks, kool-aid, sweet tea, etc. and instead be substituted or made with decaffeinated products or sugar substitutes.

The same as often times it is asked, what should children eat? Children need a good balance diet that doesn’t consist of high sugar such as candy, chips, and soft drinks, lots of kool-aid, fried foods and greasy or breaded foods and instead be substituted for fresh fruits and vegetables, grilled foods versus fried ones and diet soft drinks versus regular ones.

What should diabetics eat, should be a rule of thumb that most of us already live by or eat by, in moderation we would all become healthier, have better readings such as blood pressure, glucose readings and cholesterol. If we all ate as, “what should diabetics eat,” we would live a much better life and feel so much better about ourselves. Why not live a better life and eat with the motto, “what should diabetics eat,” in order to better ourselves?

Normal blood glucose readings

A normal blood glucose reading may seem nearly impossible to obtain but with the right amount of diet and exercise anyone can achieve one. A blood glucose test measures the amount of a certain type of sugar called glucose which is in your blood. Glucose almost always comes from starchy foods such as carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are the main source of energy that is used most often by the body. This is why most diabetics have to have routine diabetic screenings which will monitor their blood sugar readings after meals which will show what types of foods give them high amounts of glucose. Diabetes readings are key and essential in being able to control diabetes.
