Insulin pushes the pancreas to produce more glucose so that it can be released into the blood when the amount of glucose in the blood arises.
Most people will have a spike in blood glucose levels after they eat, by keeping a log of what you eat and what your blood glucose readings are afterwards you will be able to see which foods you need to stay away from or avoid. If ones blood glucose levels are too high for a certain period of time it can substantially damage the eyes, nerves, kidneys and blood vessels, thus this is why it is important to keep normal blood glucose readings.
